A Day In Brooklyn

Chris and I went to Brooklyn just to hang out and walk around.

We stopped at this really awesome market that has all handmade items!

Fad Market

I bought this bracelet! Some of the money went to planned parenthood, but they had others that went to different charities to help women’s rights and even the environment.

Check them out!

Home Decor Inspiration

If you follow me on Pinterest you know that one of the things I love to pin the most is home decor. To help with this unhealthy habit I’ve been making my own home decor inspiration boards online and I wanted to share the ones I made from all IKEA items to give people an idea of my style and to also help some people figure out how to decorate an apartment on the cheaper side.

My boyfriend and I and planning on moving in together soon and I wanted to make the rooms both masculine but still, have hints of girliness but nothing too crazy so he doesn’t freak out, lol.

I wanted the bedroom to be pretty simple and cozy. I really pull inspiration from wood and metals mixed together. I don’t like matchy-matchy things like full bedroom sets so Ikea is a great place to mix and match different nightstands and dressers.

This is my basic inspiration with any add on decor items.screen-shot-2016-10-11-at-7-56-07-pm

The next room would be the living room. I went with the same kind of color scheme gray white brown and black! I just loved how everything went really well together. My favorite item from this board is the tray table with the white stripe in the middle I’m in love.

Ikea has really come a long way with their items these days they definitely are starting to stay more on top of trends.screen-shot-2016-10-11-at-8-02-54-pm

The one thing I found out that I enjoyed about making these boards is that you can see everything together and really understand if the colors you picked out worked together and if its overall the look you were going for.

Stranger Things Chat

img_9274Stranger Things on Netflix chat, all about the kids !!*Spoilers*!!

Like everyone else, I wanted to know why everyone was going crazy over this show called “Stranger Things” with these little kids running around town. I went into the season pretty blind, because I knew it was some kind of mystery show and I didn’t want any hints or spoilers.

If you’re reading this then I’m assuming you’ve watched the show and know that it takes place in the 80s where a little boy named Will disappears one night on his way home from his friend’s house.

His friends go out and try to find him and end up finding this little girl with a shaved head named 11. Right away I found myself in love with all the kids in the show, they’re so talented and even add some comedy to this sci-fi thriller.

img_9273Mike, Dustin, and Lucas are the nerdy kids at school who love Dungeons & Dragons, walkie talkies and science. So I knew from that moment I loved them. They were the underdogs at the start, but as time went on they really proved themselves and stuck together after all these crazy events.

Mike was the one who really took 11 into the group. You could definitely tell that he was the caring and sensitive one. He never gave up on Will or Elle.

Dustin was the funniest one. The number of times that little boy said “shit” it was unbelievable! The best part of it was that it seemed like the kids figured out where Will went before most of the adults even knew what was going on.

Lucas was more of the realistic one. He was always calling them out on the crazy bull and really didn’t trust 11.  He was always challenging the other boys. But, when it came down to it he always seemed to come back around.

11 aka Elle became one of my favorite characters. I loved how she was shy and really clueless when it comes to common sense and everyday life. As the shows goes on and you find out all the things she had to go through, you understand her life, being trapped in this government facility. She never had a childhood and was taken from her mother at a young age because of her abilities. Then, she was forced to live in an undercover lab where she was put through tests and only knew how to be a weapon. When they show her little bedroom with just one picture on the wall it was the saddest thing! Elle finally got the love she needed from her three knew friends, especially Mike, and it showed a different side of her. She was willing to kill people to protect them and even fight off the common bully at school.

But my main reason for this whole post is to talk about the freaking ending! All I have is questions! Why did the sheriff go into that car? Who’s side is he really on? I’m leaning more to the bad government side because, lets be honest, he really doesn’t have anything to lose. No family or friends, plus carrying around that scary shit you had to live through! Also, why did he really leave the Eggos? Was it a trap like she’s some kind of animal? Or is he taking care of her and hiding her from the mouth breathers?! Is 11 alive? If so, where? I think she is and she is stuck in the upside down and can’t open the portal anymore. But, in the other dimension Eggos apparently still taste good. Whats up with this Will kid? Spitting things out and seeing flashes of the upside down and not telling anyone! I think he’s going to be the way they save 11, it’s the least he can do she basically sacrificed herself for him.

And the most important question of all, is Barb coming back?! Because we just cant have season 2 with out the character who no one cares about haha! img_9276

Cozy Reader Club Unboxing

b2b5cfa039204d96a90eef9669bdc5c8-4As a huge reader I’ve always wanted to try one of those really cute monthly subscription boxes. I did my research and decided to try out The Cozy Reader Club for 3 months!

The first one I got was the August box. Each box comes with a new women’s fiction hardcover book, tea/coffee or coco, a handmade item and something sweet!

This month’s box is on the pricier side compared to others, but so far I think it’s well worth it to treat yourself once a month, relax and get cozy with all this stuff! Plus, the surprise is definitely my favorite part. Christmas every month!

First off, I love how it was packaged all together: very neat and cute with tissue paper and confetti! Each box comes with a card and lists the items on the back with the prices.

The main thing in this box is of course the book! Its called “Truly, Madly,Guilty” By Liane Moriarty.

It says that its about “ Six adults, three kids and a dog on a weekend where the author shows how guilt can expose the fault lines in the most seemingly strong relationships, how what we don’t say can be more powerful than what we do, and how sometimes it is the most innocent of moments that can do the greatest harm.”

The next drink item is Tracy Stern Tea & Co. I’m not a huge tea drinker, but I do like iced tea and can’t wait to give this a try. Plus, the tin it comes in is so cute! I’m going to have to save it and find some use for it later on. It comes with a 8-pack of tea and each one makes 2 quarts of black iced tea.

The Handmade item is a blue and purple ombre silk scarf which came from an Etsy store called Franklin Street Studio. It’s apparently hand dyed and very light weight, just for the summer.

The food item was cookies! It came with two different kinds, one was a brownie and the other maple pecan. Both packages come with two of each cookies. I like that the foods are gluten, dairy and grain free. So everyone who orders this box doesn’t have to worry about not being able to enjoy it!

So far I really think I’m going to enjoy this monthly box, for the next couple months. It helps me expand more and try brands I’ve never even heard of. Also, read a book that I might have missed out on or passed by.

Brooklyn Bookstore Crawl

Last Saturday (April 30th) I went to a bookstore crawl in Brookyln! It was the first one in Brooklyn and my nerdy self was pretty excited to go. All you had to do was go around to different bookstores that were contributing and take a picture of whatever the task said, then post it to social media in hopes to win one of the many prizes. I was all about that. Free books plus shopping around Brooklyn?! Sign me up! DSC_0026

My boyfriend, some friends and I woke up early (meeting up at 9:30am, yes thats early to me. Haha!) and made our way down to Brookyln to get started.

The first stop we made was at Spoonbill & Sugartown Books

The first task was to take a picture of book that had a cover with a bird on it. I found one pretty quick and posted it to Instagram. I didn’t even realize the title until after…a little dark don’t you think?? DSC_0002

Next stop, Desert Island which was a super cool comic book store. If you like dark stories and great art this is definitely a place to check it. The vibe overall is super cool. Our task was to find the free comic publication “Smoke Signal”IMG_7927

“ummm can I cover my door with stickers now?!? I feel SO Tumblr” Haha!!DSC_0011DSC_0014

After walking more for some time, we got to the third place we wanted to visit which was the Brooklyn Art LibraryDSC_0015

This place is so different! I was not expecting to walk into a library filled with sketchpads and sketchbooks from all around the world. Each pad is different and can be about anything and everything. I chose to look at a random one because I couldn’t wait to see what this was really all about. For the task we had to find a pad by a Brooklyn-based artist, and it did not disappoint.IMG_7928

For the fourth bookstore, we then headed back to our parked car and drove over to Park Slope from the Williamsburg area. We ended up at Mama Says Comics Rock, a brand new comic shop on Court Street in Brooklyn.DSC_0033

The task for this place was to take a selfie with a Stormtrooper, or any other cut-out in the store. I chose my boo, Batman!IMG_7939

Although the selfie was a nice idea, overall I did not find this place as interesting as the others. Personally, something like a huge library filled with sketchbooks of artists from around the world is more appealing to me than a comic book store. Not that I have anything against people who like comic books (I myself like super heroes) I am just not a big reader of comics themselves.

For the fifth and final stop, we trekked all the way from Court Street to the water near Governor’s Island to reach Freebird Books.DSC_0034

Out of all the places we visited, this place was definitely the most cozy. It was very cute, and tiny which I really liked.  The task for this place was to take a picture of a book off of their “Bad Title Shelf.”IMG_7942

I thought it was pretty cool how all the books were organized throughout the store. The categories were really cool. “Bad Titles”, “First Editions”, “Women’s Rights” and many others. For those of you who like small unique little book shops, this is the place for you!

Overall, the entire day was fun! It was nice to do something different like this. The best part about all of this was experiencing new places that I would have never known about! Since I am not from Brooklyn, I am only there every once in a while, so the fact that I have new places to look forward to is really great. The crawl was a blast, and I intend on doing it again next year.

Basically, I am thankful that my love of books and reading (and nerdy attributes) lead me to an amazing experience!DSC_0044

Meeting Colleen Hoover

This year I got to meet one of my favorite authors, Colleen Hoover! I’ve read every book she has written and have always been a huge fan of her beautiful stories. So, when I found out she was going on tour for her upcoming book (November 9) I knew I had to meet her and get my books signed.IMG_6895

November 9 came out on November 10th. Yeah I know. Why couldn’t they push it back one day? After buying the book I only had a couple days until the signing in White Plains, NY so I knew I had to finish it before then or it would kill me. Once I got the book I started right away. Colleen’s writing is so addicting sometimes that its easy for me to be reading, then look at the clock and realize that its been 3 hours and I haven’t moved and I’m in way to deep to stop now. So, basically I finished the whole book in a day and I loved every page!

IMG_6888On the day of  the signing I dragged my boyfriend to White Plains early in the morning to go to Barnes and Noble and get our wrist bands, to make sure we were getting in and definitely getting something signed. Hours later we finally got to go inside and sit. We were the first ones in and got to sit right in the front row! I was really excited, its weird seeing your favorite author in person, because you love the stories and the characters in the books, but each person there has a different connection to each book and each person can take the meaning behind a book differently.

I was one of the first ones to get my November 9 copy signed, along with some of my other favorites! Colleen was sweet and funny, she took pictures with everyone and signed every book.

I can’t wait to meet other authors in the future and add to my collection of signed books.
